This trail runs through the beautiful Brokenstraw Valley. Small streams, Tamarack Swamp, wildlife, trees and wildflowers, make the trail a delight in any season. This trail will become Erie County's first Rail-to-Trail. This trail is a section of the old PennCentral rail corridor that was purchased by the Northwest Pennsylvania Trail Association in October of 2003. A grant from the Corry Community Foundation and other donations made this purchase possible. The trail is approximately 6 miles long and goes from Corry PA, across the state line, to Clymer NY. Currently Mackin Engineering is working on the Master Plan and Design for this trail. The funding for this work is through a grant from Pennsylvania's Department on Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). Adjacent property owners, community groups, and individuals, will be involved in the design phase, which will have 2 public meetings. Additional grant funding has been secured through TEA-21 to begin construction on the trail after the design is completed.
In June of 2005, a group of volunteers, led by Ray Schreckengost, Civil Engineer, completed a bridge reconstruction on a decaying bridge over the Brokenstraw Creek near the Clymer end of the trail. The new deck on the bridge helped make this end of the trail much safer and easier to access. Funding for the supplies needed for this project was from the National Rails-to-Trails Conservency.
The Tri-County Snowmobile group generously donates their time and equipment to maintain the trail. Other volunteers help with trail clean-up and trimming.
This trail is currently open for use but has not been fully improved.
